Notifications are an important part of our migration to Notion. For the first several months of our roll out, we’d like everyone to have all notifications turned on until they are integrated across the desktop app and mobile app and have decided what the most efficient way to track notifications are. For those who learn to live in Notion, some notifications may not be necessary as you build habits of checking the “Updates” section.

How Notifications work
Here's when you will get a notification:
- Someone @-mentions you or replies to your comment.
- Or you have notifications set to
All comments
for a page. - You're added to a
Person
property in a database. - You set a reminder for yourself to show up at a certain time.
Types & timing
There are several ways these notifications will reach you:
- You'll see a red badge with the number of notifications waiting for you next to
Updates
at the top of your sidebar. Learn more about updates here → - Desktop push notifications show up if you have the app installed and open.
- Mobile push notifications show up if you have the app installed and you haven't checked the notification within 5 minutes.
- Email notifications are sent if you don't have Notion open at the time of the notification, or if you have mobile notifications turned off and you haven't seen a notification within 5 minutes.
- If you have
Always send email notifications
turned on, you'll receive an email for every notification, even if you're active on the app.
Note: If you're actively viewing a page that the notification trigger was created on (i.e. the @-mention or reminder), you won't see any notifications.
Notification settings
You can turn any of these types of notification on or off by going to Settings & members
→ My notifications
, and then toggling them on or off for:
- Mobile push
- Slack notifications
- Email notifications
- Activity in your workspace: Receive emails when you get comments, mentions, page invites, reminders, access requests, and property changes.
- Email digests: Receive email digests every 8 hours for changes to pages you're subscribed to.
- Announcements and update emails: Receive occasional emails about product launches and new features from Notion.

On mobile, click on •••
near the top of your home page to find My notifications
.
Setting up Your Notifications
1. Navigate to the setting in Notion
2. Proceed to ‘My notifications’ directly under your account.
3. Turn on mobile push, desktop push, and email notifications.
If you really don’t want to miss anything, turning on ‘Always send email notifications’ will still push notifications to your email, even if you’re active in the app.
